Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the G20 virtual summit held on November 22. The speech of the head of the Kremlin for the first time since 2021 at such a platform was made possible thanks to the Global South.

This opinion was expressed to Channel 24 by Russian opposition journalist Igor Yakovenko. Note that US President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping missed the G20 meeting.

“The table is large, but it is only half European. Of the Group of 20, only half are countries that belong to the Euro-Atlantic civilization, and the rest is not Europe at all. This is the same Global South that gave the floor to Putin,” said a Russian opposition journalist.

The most expensive PR in the history of mankind

The last two G20 summits were held under the patronage of India. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi firmly said that during the virtual meeting, G20 leaders will only talk about the economy and will not discuss politics. However, such rules only applied to the war in Ukraine, since the issue of the Middle East was raised at the summit.

Now 40% of India's fuel and energy resources are provided by Russia, because the aggressor country has lost the European market and transferred all its oil resources to the East, in particular to China and India. Moscow even allowed New Delhi to pay for oil in rupees, so now India is thanking Putin for its loyalty.

“We can say that Putin bought his speech for crazy money. I think that such expensive PR has never happened in the history of mankind. For several hundred billion dollars, a person bought himself such a speech. For now, the Kremlin has a lot of money, so you can throw it away,” – added the Russian opposition journalist.

• During an online speech at the G20 summit, the Russian President made a number of cynical statements. Putin once again justified the invasion of Ukraine. Moreover, he blamed Ukraine, which “refused to negotiate,” while Russia is supposedly “ready for peaceful negotiations.”
• Advisor to the head of the OPU, Mikhail Podolyak, noted that key countries were not present at the G20 virtual summit. According to him, Putin is not on the level of Joe Biden and Xi Jinping, which is why they refused to participate.
• At the same time, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was present at the summit. He called on Putin to stop the war and withdraw his troops from Ukraine.
