Hurricane in Ukraine: Fallen trees, power outages and train delays

From July 7 to 8, a powerful hurricane raged in the western regions of Ukraine. In the regions where there was bad weather, fallen trees and damaged houses were recorded, and in some settlements, power outages and train delays were recorded.

Hurricane in the western regions of Ukraine: consequences

Rains with strong winds and hail hit Lviv, Zakarpattia and Rivne regions. The consequences of the bad weather were fallen trees and torn off roofs.

In Zakarpattia , more than 50 damaged roofs were recorded in the village of Badov. Rescuers made another 20 trips – they removed 22 trees that fell on roads, power lines and yards.

In Volyn , more than 40 rescuers and 11 units of equipment worked in the Kovel, Lutsk and Vladimir districts. Trees were removed from roads and streets to restore traffic.

In Chernivtsi Oblast, more than 1,400 square meters of roofs on houses, businesses and administrative buildings were damaged. Trees fell on roads, houses and cars. 41 rescuers and 11 units of equipment worked to eliminate the consequences.

In the Carpathian region , 12 rescue missions were recorded. Of these, 10 were to remove trees that fell on parked cars. One sheet of tin from the roof fell onto the roadway.

In Lviv Oblast, a hurricane felled trees in cities and villages. This led to road closures and damage to private property.

In many populated areas, the aftermath of the bad weather is still being eliminated. Dozens of rescuers and special equipment have been brought in for the work.

Hurricane in Ukraine: where power outages were recorded

Due to bad weather, power outages are observed in some settlements. Thus, the bad weather has cut off power to 701 settlements in six regions, the Ukrenergo.

— Due to adverse weather conditions (storm front, rain and strong wind), 701 settlements in six regions were partially or completely without power in the morning, — the report says.

Regional power company repair crews are already working to eliminate the damage. Restoration of power supply to all de-energized subscribers is expected by the end of the day.

Bad weather in Hungary and Slovakia: train situation

As a result of bad weather overnight in Hungary and Slovakia, which partially stopped the movement of local trains, a number of Ukrzaliznytsia trains were forced to delay.

As of 10:50 the following trains are delayed:

  • No. 749/750 Vienna – Kyiv (+8:20);
  • No. 27/28 Chop – Kyiv (+7:25);
  • No. 749/750 Kyiv – Vienna (+4:25);
  • No. 81/82 Chop – Kyiv (+2:06);
  • №9/10 Budapest – Kyiv (+1:14);
  • No. 95/96 Rakhov – Kyiv (+0:41).

In addition, in connection with the elimination of the consequences of bad weather, on July 8, checkpoint operations at the Dzvinkovo-Lonya checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border were temporarily suspended.

IN The State Border Service is asked to take this information into account when planning trips abroad. To cross the border, it is recommended to use the nearest checkpoints – Kosino or Velikaya Palad.
