Szijjártó announced Hungary's position on the embargo on Russian oil/HVG.hu.
Hungary is not going to take active steps to keep the Russians from continuing the war against Ukraine. While the whole of Europe is actively looking for ways to replace energy carriers, the Hungarian authorities decided to simply boycott the decision on the embargo.
The European Union is actively working on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. In particular, it also refers to the oil embargo for the aggressor.
Hungary's Position
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto said that his country did not will change its position on the oil embargo from Russia. Europe is trying in every possible way to convince Hungary of the need for such a step, but to no avail.
Hungary will not vote for the European Commission's initiative on sanctions against Russia, because it creates a problem for Hungary and does not contain a proposal for its solution, Szijjarto commented on Hungary's decision.
He said that the sanctions proposed by the European Commission to deter Russia, will become a bomb for the Hungarian economy and make us forget about the stability of energy supply. Two-thirds of the oil used by the Hungarians is of Russian origin.
Earlier, Hungary stated that in order to get rid of dependence on Russian energy carriers, it needs 5 years. The sanctions envisaged by the European Commission allow Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic to buy Russian oil for another 2 years.
