Hungary said it was dissatisfied with the Ukrainian law on expanding the rights of national minorities

by alex

Hungary is dissatisfied with the changes adopted by the Verkhovna Rada that affect ethnic minorities in Ukraine.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of External Economy and Foreign Affairs of Hungary Tamás Menczer made this statement on his Facebook.

— Eight years ago, the rights of the Hungarian community in Ukraine began to be taken away, and since then the deprivation of rights has continued. Yesterday's decision of the Ukrainian parliament, of course, will be carefully assessed, but it is already clear that it is far from restoring rights in 2015. However, we will continue to monitor its implementation — he wrote.

Mentser did not specify what exactly he was not happy with in the new Ukrainian bill.

Law on the Rights of National Minorities

Yesterday, December 8, the Verkhovna Rada supported a bill to expand the rights of national minorities whose languages are recognized as official in the European Union. Thus, national minorities will have the opportunity to receive school education in their native language. We are talking about Hungarian, Bulgarian, Romanian and other languages.

It is noteworthy that the bill did not provide for expansion of rights for the Russian language.

The bill was signed by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky that same evening.

This law was included in the conditions of the European Commission necessary for negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU to begin.
