The Hungarian government commented on the SBU’s statement that Russia wanted to use the meeting between Poroshenko and Orban for IPSO. Hungary stated that it allegedly “does not want to participate in the internal political struggle.”

The representative of the Hungarian government, Zoltan Kovacs, also mentioned Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. It should be noted that they are talking about the case when the fifth president, Petro Poroshenko, was not released from the country.

What they said in Hungary

Hungary does not want to participate in the internal political struggle of President Zelensky. News such as this (statement by the SBU – Channel 24), and these “political purges” are further evidence that Ukraine is not yet ready for EU membership, the Hungarian side said.

It should be noted that the Security Service of Ukraine explained the reason why the State Border Service did not release Petro Poroshenko from Ukraine. In particular, they assured that:

  • before Poroshenko’s visit abroad, they received information about the preparation of provocations in the international arena by Russian special services directed against Ukraine;
  • the enemy’s goal is to reduce support for foreign partners and try to split Ukrainian society from within;
  • Russia planned to send IPSO to change the mood in the partner countries of the anti-Russian coalition and encourage representatives of the Ukrainian political establishment to proclaim narratives about the need for negotiations with Russia on the terms of freezing the war.

According to the counterintelligence data received, it is in this context that information about the planned meeting of the head of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who systematically expresses an anti-Ukrainian position, is a “friend of Putin” and calls for the lifting of sanctions from Russia, can be considered, they said in the SBU.

That is why the SBU appealed to the Office of the President, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada with a proposal to take into account information about the enemy’s plans when organizing and coordinating foreign business trips of Ukrainian delegations.

What preceded this

  • Petro Poroshenko said on December 1 that he tried to leave Ukraine at the Krakovets checkpoint. The politician had with him a signed business trip by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. However, the border guards did not let him through, saying that his business trip had been cancelled.
  • Subsequently they wrote that the decision of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk was abolished by the First Deputy Speaker Alexander Kornienko. The latter confirmed this information, stating that he received a letter marked “For official use”, the contents of which he cannot disclose. It was on the basis of this letter that Kornienko canceled Poroshenko’s business trip.
  • The next day, the SBU explained that they and the intelligence officers had received information that the Russian special services were preparing provocations in the international arena directed against Ukraine. The enemies planned to involve individual Ukrainian politicians in the IPSO during their visits to third countries.
  • Therefore, it was on the basis of an appeal from the SBU that the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada did not allow a foreign business trip for the Ukrainian deputy, who should become an instrument in the hands of the Russian special services.
