Hungary will preside over the Council of Europe from July to December 2024. It is known that this country often opposes assistance to Ukraine at the international level. Therefore, it is unknown what decisions Budapest will make regarding our state in the future.

Hungary recently vetoed a Council resolution Europe regarding the peace formula proposed by Ukraine. The head of the Doctrine center for political studios, Yaroslav Bozhko, told 24 Channel, that one should not exaggerate the risks from the Council of Europe, because it is not part of the network of European Union institutions.

Is there a threat from Hungary to Ukraine

Bozhko explained that the Council of the EU and the European Council are two different institutions that are related to the European Union, but the Council of Europe is not.

This is an institution that continues to exist. The Council of Europe is celebrated with symbolic statements. Hungary may block some of Ukraine’s positions, but this is a war on a symbolic front, he said. Ukraine needs to defend its positions there.

Hungary will be able to seriously counteract our position at some stages, but this there won’t be any big consequences,” noted Yaroslav Bozhko.
