Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban issued another cynical statement that only escalates relations between Budapest and Kyiv. The Hungarian leader said that his country borders on the Russians.
Orban made the scandalous statement during a gala dinner in honor of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He said that in the west Hungary borders on German-speakers, and in the east – on Russians, “forgetting” about Ukraine.
Orban populated Ukraine with Russians
“I also told President Aliyev that in Hungary he can have an imperfect friend. He said that this is very interesting, but here it is somewhat more important: that countries understand each other only when they have similar strategic and geostrategic positions,” journalists quoted Orban as saying.
And you don't have to be a nuclear physicist to see it right away: Azerbaijan borders Iran in the south and Russia in the north; German speakers live to the west of Hungary, and Russians to the east. Therefore, we know the situation and know how difficult it is to manage the life of a nation well under such circumstances,” Orban said. “our country by Russian occupiers.
It can be assumed that Orban had problems with geography. It should also be noted that this is not the first scandal with Orban and the territory of Ukraine.
In November 2022, the Hungarian Prime Minister wore a football scarf, which depicts a map of “Greater Hungary” with the territories of Ukraine and Romania. The act of the Hungarian leader was condemned in Bucharest and Kyiv.
Orban disgraced himself with a statement about the war in Ukraine
- Almost every statement of Orban about the war in Ukraine is resonant and outrageous. He recently outlined his position on the current situation of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
- Orban does not believe in Ukraine's victory and believes that it is gradually turning into an unmanageable ruin. According to him, Russia's goal is to turn Ukraine into an unruly ruin so that the West cannot claim it “as a prize.”
- He also said that if Ukrainians cross the Russian border with Western weapons, “the future will be so bright that the West will have to wear sunglasses.”
- Ukraine's Foreign Ministry summoned Hungarian Ambassador Istvan Ijdjarto to protest against Orban's remarks.
