Orban goes to Kyiv?

The visit to Kyiv will be the first trip of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban after the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine.

Adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mikhail Podolyak refused to comment on the possible visit, but another source in Kyiv confirmed Orban’s plans.

According to sources in Budapest, plans for the visit emerged after lengthy negotiations on the rights of the Hungarian-speaking minority in Ukraine. It is noted that in recent weeks the parties reached an agreement.

The issue of citizenship rights of the Hungarian minority is one of Budapest’s biggest complaints regarding Ukraine. And so Orban is accused of promoting Russian propaganda regarding the war in Ukraine.

Hungary has repeatedly questioned the need for military assistance to Ukraine and called for a ceasefire.
