Former Hungarian President Janos Ader stepped down from his post on May 9th. Ader had 2 presidential terms behind him.

Janos Ader was re-elected again in 2017 – in March, the President was elected with 131 votes. His rival Laszlo Maiteni, who was nominated by the parties of the left, received only 39 votes.

After the end of the presidential term, Ader will be replaced by Katalina Nowak. This is a representative of the ruling Fidesz party, which is also represented by Viktor Orban.

By decision of the parliament, Novak was elected on March 10 with a result of 137 votes. Her opponent, opposition candidate Peter Ron, received only 51 votes.

The new President Katalina Nowak will not only be the first female president of Hungary, but also the youngest president among the countries of the European Union.

Novak, like Viktor Orban, condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but also does not support the imposition sanctions against Russia and the oil embargo.

At the same time, in an interview with Index, she said that she would not become a tool for expanding Orban's power.
