Huawei intends to migrate 200 million devices to its own operating system. This was announced by a company representative at a conference for developers, according to the Chinese newspaper China Daily.
Vice President of Huawei's software department Yang Haisong announced the corporation's plans to expand the market for smartphones and other smart gadgets. According to him, Huawei plans to install HarmonyOS on 200 million devices. At the same time, half of the devices running the new operating system will be released directly by Huawei, the remaining 100 million gadgets will be provided by third-party manufacturers. The share of smartphones that will receive the new OS is not reported.
Thus, the IT giant plans to gain a share in the global software market and squeeze the manufacturers of other operating systems. The publication's reporters stressed that Huawei is revealing plans for HarmonyOS for the first time.
The message says that the operating system presented a year ago is already used in Huawei TVs. To promote HarmonyOS, the Chinese corporation has entered into agreements with Midea Group, Joyoung, Robam Appliances and other manufacturers of equipment.
On September 10, Huawei announced a new version of its own operating system designed for smartphones, smartwatches, TVs and other devices. At the beginning of 2021, the developers will test the OS, at the end of the year the corporation intends to present the first beta version of HarmonyOS, adapted to work on smartphones.
