More than 7.7 million Ukrainians were forced to leave their native towns and villages and move to other regions of Ukraine due to Russian aggression. When looking for a job in a new place, people can also meet unscrupulous employers.
The State Labor Service of Ukraine told how not to become a victim of forced labor. They noted that the International Labor Organization clearly defines forced labor.
It is a violation if a person is threatened for not doing work
The ILO Convention states that forced labor is when a person is required to do so under threat of punishment, or when a person voluntarily did not offer his services.
Therefore, work should be refused if there are the following signs:
- psychological pressure and manipulation;
- transfer of money for the provision of services for employment;
- informal employment;
- constant supervision, control by the employer;
- refusal to show registration documents;
- short period for granting consent to work;
- inflated promised wages;
- change in working conditions at the moment;
- demand to give someone a passport;
- contract with unclear conditions;
< li> compensation of the so-called “expenses” of the employer from the first salary.
The State Labor Service says that it is better for displaced people to stay in groups in order to minimize risks. Of course, you should not get into the cars of potential employers yourself, or at least write down the data of the car and send friends.
Documents should not be given to strangers
In no case should you transfer your documents to intermediaries or employers . The best way out is to make copies of important documents and leave them with your family along with a photo.
It would be good to carefully consult with a lawyer before employment. In any suspicious or threatening cases, you must contact the police.
