The topic of a personal meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin has long existed in the media space. However, the UN does not yet have hopes for this meeting in the near future.
This was stated by UN Secretary General António Guterres in an interview with Kremlin propagandists. According to him, the meeting depends on the desire of Zelensky and Putin.
The UN sees no prospects for a meeting in the near future
António Guterres noted that now the prospect of a meeting between Zelensky and Putin is very far away. The UN Secretary General called the main reason that both presidents stand by their positions. Volodymyr Zelensky talks about the de-occupation of all Ukrainian territories, and Putin keeps repeating mantras about the “goals” he wants to fulfill. True, it is no longer clear what the Kremlin's goals are – they change with the speed of the infidels' retreat.
However, the Secretary General expressed the hope that the meeting would still take place, although the reality so far shows that this is still impossible.

Realistically speaking, we are still far from this possibility (Zelensky-Putin meetings – Channel 24) and it will probably be difficult to hold direct talks between the presidents,” Guterres stressed.
Ukraine refused to negotiate with Russia
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a number of meetings have taken place between representatives of the delegations of both sides. The negotiations were held in Belarus and Turkey. However, in April, after the de-occupation of the Kyiv region and what the world saw in Bucha, Ukraine refused to negotiate.
In September, against the backdrop of a successful counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Kremlin decided to invite Ukraine to resume negotiations. Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanyshina noted that Ukraine refused this and stressed that negotiations would resume only after Kyiv achieves its military goals. Politics did not emphasize that now our country has more leverage than Russia.
