How much does it cost for Ukraine to keep one prisoner. This was told by Deputy Minister of Justice Elena Vysotskaya
According to her, the cost of maintaining one Russian prisoner of war is about 10,000 hryvnia per month.
Maintenance of one occupier costs Ukraine 10 thousand
“If we talk about the more or less normally calculated cost of keeping a prisoner in the camp at the end of 2022, taking into account the provision of the camp, with taxes, salaries, utility costs, this amount is about 10,000 hryvnia per captive per month,” she said.
Vysotskaya noted that when the Ministry of Justice used to talk about 3,000 hryvnia per month for the maintenance of one Russian prisoner of war, it was only about the cost of food and utilities.
As Vysotskaya explained, in 2022 they did not sum up the cost of keeping prisoners in a pre-trial detention center, but by the end of 2021 this amount was about 130 thousand hryvnias per year. Then there were also about 11 thousand hryvnias per month for one detainee.
How Ukraine holds Russian prisoners
- American journalists ended up in a colony in the West, where Ukraine holds Russian prisoners of war. The location of the colony is not specified for security reasons.
- First of all, on the street, journalists witnessed how one of the prisoners of war tried to call home. Prisoners are entitled to 15-minute phone calls home 1 or 2 times a month.
- The journalists also witnessed a lunch in the colony. On that day, the prisoners were fed soup, potatoes with meat and coleslaw. Everyone sat at tables covered with tablecloths.
- In general, the regime for prisoners includes three meals a day, certain activities, in particular the production of paper bags with the image of Lvov, and free time.
- The prisoners live in rooms of 20 people. Each has a bed, bedside table and chair. Wounded invaders are being treated in the infirmary.
