Western partners have stepped up military assistance to Ukraine, which includes Patroit air defense systems. To close the sky, we need several times more batteries than we will get, but a strong start has been made.

About thisChannel 24said a military expert, a colonel in the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and an instructor pilot Roman Svitan. He is convinced that the war with Russia will continue for about 10 years and will continue with those countries into which it will fall apart.

According to Svitan, in order to completely close the sky over Ukraine, 2 complexes are needed Air Defense Patriot. One such complex has 8 – 9 batteries. In general, Ukraine needs 16 to 18 Patriot batteries, the speaker believes.

So far, we've been given three. Therefore, we can expect that these three batteries will cover, for example, an area with a large settlement. At least 1 – 2, perhaps 3 airfields will be taken under control, – the military expert noted.

He added that the start is good, but Ukraine needs at least 6 times more such batteries.

What you need besides Patriot

Svitan emphasized that any air defense should be in many layers. It should start with mobile fireteams, that is, with machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, army-grade MANPADS, and end with the same Patriot.

However, I would like more, DHAAD air defense, Israeli Hetz, but I don’t think that weapons of this level will be handed over to us. Thank you at least for the Patriot. Three batteries is very good at the start. I think that within a year we will receive at least one complex and deploy a good air defense system at its base. – said the military.
