The Israeli military's ground operation continues in the Gaza Strip. They have begun to destroy Hamas tunnels, but for many reasons, including the possibility of hostages there, they are forced to move slowly and carefully.

Israeli military observer David Sharp reminded Channel 24 that ventilation is one of the most important factors in the functioning of tunnels over hundreds of kilometers, especially when there are thousands of militants there at the same time.

“The fans operate using electricity – generators and diesel fuel are needed here. The struggle for diesel fuel is going on in all ways,” Sharp noted.

According to him, Israel insisted on the absence of fuel in humanitarian aid for the residents of the Gaza Strip because it knows very well that it is a strategic weapon of Hamas. Moreover, militants take diesel fuel from hospitals for their own needs – mainly for the functioning of tunnels.

The lives of the hostages come first

“If the army knows that there are hostages in a certain place, for example in a tunnel or an underground bunker, then they will not launch an air strike on this place,” Sharp stated.

When it becomes known that there are no hostages in a particular tunnel, it becomes possible to use specially adapted ammunition. They penetrate to the required depth and explode.

IDF clears Hamas tunnels: latest news

  • The Israeli military began an operation to destroy Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip on November 2. For this purpose, different types of robots and explosive devices are used.
  • The total distance of Hamas tunnels reaches 500 kilometers. This project cost terrorists billions of dollars, which the international community allocated to help civilians.
  • There were proposals to run water and gas into the Hamas tunnel. However, in this way, the hostages held there by the militants may suffer, so no one will do this.
