The German defense industrial concern Rheinmetall and the American Lockheed Martin presented a joint development — rocket artillery system GMARS on a wheeled chassis.

The first display of the system took place at an exhibition of military equipment, which opened on June 18 in Paris.

GMARS was the result of the combined efforts of two industrial companies in 2023 in response to the growing demand for long-range artillery.

The launcher is capable of firing all MLRS (MFOM) family ammunition to achieve long range and high accuracy.

The family includes high-precision GMLRS projectiles of conventional and extended range and ATACMS ballistic missiles or the latest American PrSM.

GMARS is fully autonomous, thanks to a built-in crane for loading ammunition.

Technical characteristics of the GMARS system:

  • length — 9.8 meters:
  • width — 2.5 meters;
  • weight — 31,140 kg (without ammunition);
  • combat load — 40 tons;
  • height in stowed position — 3.9 meters;
  • speed — up to 100 km/h with spares in combat conditions up to 700 km/h;
  • crew — 2 people, cabin seats 3.
