Historical not only for Ukraine: details of the start of the summit in Brussels

by alex

In Brussels, on December 14, the summit of the European Council began, at which a decision should be made on the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in EU. However, it is historical not only for our state.

So, if the decision on our membership is postponed, this may also affect issues of negotiations with Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Georgia, because these issues are considered as a whole. Presenter 24 Channel Alexey Pechiy told the details of the beginning of the European Council summit in Brussels.

What is happening on the sidelines of the summit in Brussels

For example, Austria is already hinting that it is ready to support a decision on Ukraine if a corresponding decision is made regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina. All these are internal issues of the European Union. Member states have their own interests and are trying to solve them; this is not a question of attitude towards Ukraine.

I’ll be honest, there are already conversations on the sidelines , that this summit may drag on for another day – including December 16, because there are a number of issues,” Pechiy said.

In addition to negotiations on membership, it is planned to consider the issue of work The European Peace Fund, from which military assistance to our state is financed and the allocation of 50 billion euros of financial support to Ukraine for the next 4 years – until 2027.

26 leaders of EU member states have already managed to make a speech before the summit and are in favor of making an appropriate decision. However, there is only one person who opposes this decision – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who emphasizes that he is against this decision. As Orban himself said, he is not against helping Ukraine in the short term, but then “we need to look for money outside the EU.”

Summit in Brussels: current information

  • Hungary has repeatedly stated that it is against the start of negotiations with Ukraine on joining the European Union. Already on December 14, before the start of the summit, the Hungarian leader issued a new statement.
  • Thus, Orban said that “there is now no basis for negotiations on Ukraine’s membership.” And he commented on the position on financial assistance to our state from the European Union.
  • In Brussels they are already directly calling the Hungarian leader a Trojan horse of dictator Vladimir Putin. They claim that the remaining 26 EU members will be able to make key decisions without Hungary’s consent.
