The United States will create a new military command in Japan. In this way, Washington is trying to strengthen its allies in Asia.

The Wall Street Journal writes that the United States is seeking to support Japan's efforts to build up its military potential, which includes a new unified military command that the country's authorities plan to create in early 2025.

It is noted that this is part of a broader effort to strengthen military relations between the allies and covers Japan's efforts to strengthen the West's industrial base, which is expected to include the supply of Patriot missile defense systems to the United States.

Tokyo and Washington are working together to counter growing military cooperation between Beijing and Moscow, which last week sent their first joint bomber patrol toward Alaska. Another danger is North Korea's growing missile arsenal.

The publication claims that the US is already involved in an ambitious effort to help Australia acquire nuclear submarines. The American authorities also lifted the limits on the range of ballistic missiles that the DPRK can develop using American technology.

At the same time, Japan decided to purchase hundreds of Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States, which can attack ground targets.

Former senior US official for Asian policy Christopher Johnston assures that this means that the United States is ready to take steps to support allied potential in a way that we have not done before.

However, the work on this is still not finished. To create it, the US military plans to refit the existing administrative headquarters at a base near the Japanese capital.

This is essentially a new type of cooperation for the US and Japan, and so it will take a lot of effort, and we will have to build new muscles to be able to do this, said former Defense Department official Zach Cooper.

This will be the first time that American combat capabilities will be under the command of a headquarters in Japan, which means they no longer have to wait for instructions from the US Indo-Pacific Command, which is located in Hawaii, 3,500 miles away.
