The Lend-Lease Act specifies that during the reporting years 2022 and 2023, “The President may authorize the Government of the United States to lend or lease defense weapons to the government of Ukraine or the governments of Eastern European countries affected by the Russian Federation's invasion of Ukraine.”
Ukraine is not alone
It is interesting that during the debates in Congress there were many parallels with the Second World War. For in 1940 Churchill said: “The United Kingdom will fight against Germany, if necessary – for years, if necessary – one on one!”.
The United States came to the defense of London, like the Soviet Union. And they helped, at current prices, for 690 billion dollars.
Therefore, even now the United States is giving us a clear signal: Ukraine is not alone! We have allies with whose forces Russia will not be able to compete.
“As long as we need it”
Land-lease will allow the American authorities to “borrow” us the necessary weapons and more. Therefore, we will be able to use weapons “as long as they are needed and until they break”.
Payment for such a lease is symbolic. And after the war they will discuss it.
For example: the United Kingdom in the 1940s received benefits for 31 billion, and returned 1 billion (in 1940s prices), and then they paid 50 years. The last payment was made in 2006. Having provided $11 billion in aid to the USSR, the United States asked for $1.3 billion in payment after the war. In response, the USSR agreed to only 170 million dollars.
Now the entire American military industry will start working for Ukraine! For us. Now it's practically free, then we'll figure it out. After the victory, which we will definitely get with such allies!
