In Ukraine, all those responsible for the mass executions of participants in the Revolution of Dignity have not yet been punished. They are trying to bring to justice one of the Berkut soldiers who fled to Russia.
This was reported in the Prosecutor General's Office. He noted that he massively shot people on February 20, 2014.
“The investigation established that on February 20, 2014, on Instytutska Street in Kiev, police officers of the Berkut special forces company, led by the commander and together with him, used weapons loaded with ammunition against protesters,” the Prosecutor General's Office said.
What is known about the Berkut case
Directly because of the actions of the Berkut commander, 48 protesters died. Gunshot wounds were received by 90 people. After that, the commander of the security forces ordered to hide the weapons of crime. However, during the investigation, part of the weapon was found and identified.
The commander of the Berkut troops is charged with obstruction of peaceful actions, abuse of power, a terrorist act, infliction of grievous bodily harm, premeditated murder, completed attempted murder of protesters. In addition, the security officer was involved in the theft of service firearms.
The indictment was sent to the court for consideration under a special absentee procedure in connection with harboring the accused in the territory of the aggressor country and acquiring its citizenship, the Office of the Prosecutor General noted.
They added that the measure of restraint was chosen in absentia for the Berkut officer – detention.
The court allowed the arrest of Yanukovych
For the fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych, on January 17, 2023, the court once again chose a preventive measure. Law enforcement officers completed pre-trial investigation.
