He's not ready yet: how the US feels about Zelensky's victory plan Natalia Belzetskaya

Volodymyr Zelensky is in the United States on a working visit. In addition to a number of high-level meetings, he is also expected to present a plan for Ukraine's victory.

The head of the Polita Institute of Democracy and Development, Kateryna Odarchenko, told Channel 24 that Zelensky's visit to the United States is taking place at the end of Joe Biden's term. The approaching elections and personnel changes will influence the decision on Ukraine.

Does the United States support Zelensky's plan?

“There is already a discussion about the fact that the plan is not fully formed. There are key elements that everyone agrees with, but this is not a detailed plan for ending the war. No one would publicly discuss such plans,” noted Kateryna Odarchenko.

However, the Ukrainian delegation is working in different vectors. There is work with the UN, with the Biden administration. It is very important for the current president to leave behind a certain legacy, significant historical decisions.

This legacy, in particular, may concern Ukraine. Let us recall that the Republicans said that Biden is a weak president in the foreign policy vector. But first of all, they did not talk about Ukraine, but about leaving Afghanistan, – emphasized Ekaterina Odarchenko.

What can change after the elections

Biden understands that all his statements now affect the rating of Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party. Therefore, it is likely that all key decisions will be made and announced after the elections. Then we should expect serious geopolitical changes.

Now all of Europe is very actively watching the elections in the United States. After all, the participation of European countries in helping Ukraine and in the global security architecture depends on the decisions of the United States, added Kateryna Odarchenko.

But even despite this, one should not think that the election of one or another candidate will immediately mean the end of assistance to Ukraine. In America, institutions work, a system of checks and balances works, so one person in the White House does have a lot of influence, but not enough to change the culture of diplomatic relations.
