Helping Ukraine in the interests of the West: how many Germans are ready to defend the country from Russian attacks

by alex

In Ukraine, it has been repeated more than once since the beginning of a full-scale war that by providing weapons to our military, the West helps itself. After all, in this way it helps to contain and destroy the invasion, which few people are ready to face.

This, in particular, was confirmed by a representative YouGov survey in Germany. According to his data, in the event of war, only 5 percent would have volunteered for the army there, and 6 would have been waiting for the draft.

What the Germans were asked about

< p>A survey on the readiness to defend the state in the event of a full-scale war was conducted among 2 thousand adult voters.

Let's assume that there are signs of a military attack on Germany compared to the Russian attack on Ukraine that began in February 2022. How do you think you would personally act in such a situation? YouGov was asked.

Also in the survey, the Germans shared their thoughts on the return of the state to the draft army, and also talked about the ability to use firearms.

Poll Results

The study showed that in the event of a full-scale war, one in three German citizens would try to continue their usual life, and one in four would leave the country faster. At the same time, the proportion of people who are ready to leave their homeland is greater among the younger generation.

It is interesting that the Greens voters expressed their desire to defend the country the most. Also, the results of the survey show that there are practically no special differences between East and West.

As for the ability to use weapons, at the time of the survey, 23 percent of the participants declared such skills, and 74 answered that they did not know how to do it . 3 percent of the respondents did not provide any information.

The Germans do not have an unambiguous opinion about the return of the draft army in the next decade. Thus, 42 percent of those surveyed assume that military service will return, while 37 percent do not believe in it. 21 percent of the respondents did not dare to judge or did not want to say anything about it.

Pay attention! In Germany, only a contract army operates. Conscription in this state has been suspended since July 2011.
