Helped Russia advance on Pokrovsk: SBU detains Russian agent

by alex

In the Donetsk region, SBU officers detained a Russian military intelligence agent who was spying on the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Pokrovsk direction, where fierce fighting is currently underway.

What is known about the Russian agent in Pokrovsk

He turned out to be an employee of one of the mines in the Donetsk region, who was remotely recruited by the Russian special service in July 2024.

On instructions from his curators, the traitor reconnoitred the location of the headquarters and fortified areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine involved in the defense of Pokrovsk.

The enemy was most interested in the positions of heavy artillery, which are kept under fire control by the assault squads of the occupiers, as well as the bases of the SBU units, which carry out counter-sabotage activities in this area and perform other tasks.

During such reconnaissance sorties, the agent behaved like an ordinary city resident who went to work at the local mine. However, he managed to covertly record the location of Ukrainian troops and marked the coordinates on maps.

To communicate with his handlers, the suspect first used an anonymous account on a popular messenger, and then switched to banned Russian social networks.

The traitor was exposed and detained at an early stage, which prevented him from leaking up-to-date information about the defense of Pokrovsk to the Russians.

A mobile phone and SIM cards, which he periodically changed for the sake of conspiracy, were confiscated from the detainee's home.

SBU investigators announced that he was suspected under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
