Helped during the decisive periods of the war: how Bulgaria secretly transferred weapons to Ukraine

by alex

Bulgaria has not declared that it is helping our state with weapons. But this did not prevent her, in the decisive periods of the war for Ukraine, to transfer the necessary equipment. Now they talk about it openly.

Journalists conducted an investigation. It shed light on the fact that Bulgaria, although it did not declare military assistance to Ukraine, nevertheless provided it. It is known that our state received it during those periods of the war when it needed it the most.

Help was hidden

Recall that On April 28, the then Prime Minister arrived in KyivBulgaria Kirill Petkov. He met with Vladimir Zelensky. Then it became known that Bulgaria would be engaged in the repair of Ukrainian equipment. The transfer of technology was not even discussed. At the same time, the government in Sofia was engaged in a procedure that provided for comprehensive military assistance to our state.

This was not officially reported. At the same time, weapons, ammunition and other weapons were transferred to Ukrainethrough third countries. It is known that our state received a colossal amount of equipment from Bulgaria in the period from April to August 2022.

With the help of Sofia, we managed to cover a third of the ammunition needs of our troops. The state also helped to provide up to 40% tanks and vehicles. In addition, they gave us diesel fuel.

Worthy of attention! At that time, Bulgaria processed only crude Russian oil at its refinery. We can see that the occupiers here also made sure that the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed them.

Journalists noted that Bulgaria had long been considered an appendage of Russia. At the same time, the government of this country demonstrated its courage in difficult times for Ukraine. Moreover, it has become an example of how to support the struggle against a bloody dictatorial regime. It's just that you can find “creative ways” for this.

Official Kyiv confirmed the help

This was done by Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba. According to him, Kirill Petkov showed honesty. The head of the department noted that he would always be grateful to him for “using his political skills to find a solution.”

The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that some members of the Bulgarian coalition supported Russia. Meanwhile, Petkov “decided to be on the right side of history”. With his decisions and actions, he contributed to the defense of Ukraine from a “stronger enemy”.

Journalists noted that from the first days of a full-scale invasion Petkov tried to influence the leaders of EU member states. He turned to Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz. He urged them to support our state, as well as to impose tough sanctions against Putin.

The transfer of weapons was classified

Recall that on April 19, Dmitry Kuleba arrived in Sofia. He received a task, the purpose of which was to obtain the necessary weapons.

We knew that the Bulgarian warehouses had a large amount of the ammunition we needed, so President Zelensky sent me on a diplomatic mission to get the necessary materials. – he noted.

The head of the department noted that the negotiation process took place behind closed doors. It was extremely important, because it was “a matter of life and death”.

< p> It is known that then Petkov called the internal political situation in Bulgaria “difficult”. At the same time, heassured that he would do everything he couldfor Ukraine to receive weapons.

Thus, in April, cargo planes, completely filled with ammunition, made flights from Bulgaria to Poland. In a neighboring country, 70 kilometers from the state border, they created a kind of hub.

We made sure that the overland route through Romania and Hungary has also been opened to trucks. According to our estimates, about a third of the ammunition needed by the Ukrainian army in the early stages of the war came from Bulgaria,” Petkov said.
