Finland plans to build a large explosives plant. The project will cost more than €200 million.
Construction of a plant in Finland
According to the website of the Finnish Ministry of Defense, the plant is planned to be built in the city of Pori, located on the west coast.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen says that building our own plant is the best solution to strengthen the defense industry and ensure supplies.

— With the new TNT plant, we will be able to respond to the explosives shortage in Europe and the problems it causes, — he noted.
In his opinion, the project led by the Finnish Ministry of Defense will play an important role in increasing the production of ammunition in Europe.
Häkkänen emphasized that these investments will enable Finland to continue supporting Ukraine in the long term.
The project will be carried out by the Finnish explosives manufacturer Oy Forcit Ab. The Finnish Defence Forces have already signed a letter of purchase for TNT explosives on 31 January 2025.
The total purchase price excluding value added tax is estimated at at least €255 million, which will cover the US Armed Forces' need for TNT explosives for the period 2028-2037.
TNT, or trinitrotoluene, is an explosive used in artillery and mortar ammunition. Demand for TNT has increased significantly following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
