A massive snowfall has hit Japan. Bad weather claimed the lives of 17 people, another 90 local residents were injured.
Hundreds of houses were left without electricity. This was reported by representatives of the disaster management service.
Consequences of a heavy snowfall in Japan
Since last week, a heavy snowfall has covered the northern regions. As a result, during the Christmas holidays, the number of dead reached 17 people, injured – up to 93 people. Most of them fell from the roofs during the cleaning of bad weather, and some were covered with snow sliding from the roofs.
Therefore, the people of Japan urged to be careful during snow removal.
The Disaster Management Agency reported that a 70-year-old woman was found dead under a thick pile of snow that suddenly fell on her in Nagai City, Yamagata Prefecture, where the snow cover exceeded 80 centimeters.
In many areas of the northeast In Japan, the amount of snow is three times the average for the season. Power lines on the northern island were also destroyed – about 20,000 houses were left without electricity.
In addition, dozens of trains and flights were suspended in northern Japan until December 25, but most of the messages have since resumed.
