President of the European Parliament Roberta Metzola has arrived in Ukraine. She met with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Lviv, as well as Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Zelensky thanked for his leadership in supporting Ukraine from the first days of the war and for the important decisions taken by the European Parliament.
The President recalled that on March 1, 2022, on the second day after the submission of our application for EU membership, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on support and the need to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
Ukraine seeks to complete the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission as soon as possible and start negotiations on joining the EU this year,” the head of state said.
Metsola met with Stefanchuk
Mesolla stressed that the future of Ukraine is membership in the European Union. She noted that the European Parliament will go all the way together with Ukraine.
Stefanchuk, in turn, said that he and his colleague discussed Ukraine's path to full membership in the EU. In addition, they talked about sanctions against Russia. All opportunities to circumvent these sanctions should be stopped.
The speaker thanked the European Union for financial support and macro-financial assistance. They did not ignore China's proposals regarding the so-called peace treaty, but Stefanchuk stressed that we have our own Ukrainian formula for peace.
