In the war between Russia and Ukraine, the famous Kyiv activist Roman Ratushny died. It happened on June 9 in the Izyum direction. His body was taken to the controlled territory only on the night of June 13.
As activist Sergei Sternenko accurately wrote, the whole country lost not just a hero, but a citizen who could and did change the whole country for the better .
Activist, patriot, hero
Roman Ratushny was born on July 5, 1997 in Kyiv. He was the son of:
- writer, journalist Svetlana Povalyaeva ,
- journalist, activist of the “Save Old Kyiv” movement Taras Ratushny .
Roman himself also had an active civic position. He is known for his struggle to preserve Protasov Yar in Kyiv. The man actively participated in the Euromaidan, along with other students suffered from the Berkut attack on the night of November 30, 2013.
an organization aimed at preserving the green zone in Protasov Yar in the center of Kyiv and preventing development.
Roman was repeatedly threatened with physical violence. The activist was forced to hide. In the end, the developer's intentions to build three 40-story buildings on the slope were thwarted. In March 2021, Roman was wrongfully arrested after a protest rally near the Office of the President, when supporters of Sergei Sternenko burned flares, smashed the glass in the doors and scribbled on the walls.
Roman Ratushny was a real citizen and fighter . Despite his young age, he did a lot for his native city and community, laid down his life for the freedom of the country and for each of us.
Battle path
After a full-scale invasion of the horde, Ratushny volunteered for the Ukrainian Defense Forces and created the Protasovy Yar subdivision. He first defended Kyiv, later he acted in the Sumy region, participated in the de-occupation of the settlements of the region.

At the beginning of April, Ratushny fought in the Kharkiv region, in particular in the Izyumsky district, in the reconnaissance platoon of the 2nd motorized infantry battalion of the 93rd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Cold Yar”.
It is known that an activist for the Ukrainian defender died on 9 June in the Izyum direction in the Kharkiv region. Roman's father Taras Ratushny said that the report on the circumstances is contradictory.
I can neither speak nor write now … When Roma did not return from the battle exit, I did not believe into his death. The report on the circumstances is contradictory, the hairpin on the map is in the enemy rear, at the battlefield there is an ambush. They couldn’t get through to him, meanwhile, the son’s documents fluttered in enemy publics, – said the father of the Ukrainian hero.
He also thanked everyone who heard about the place where Roman died, but understood everything and kept silence, and decisively stopped those who did not understand.
“All of you really performed a miracle. By this miracle, ours took Roma and now he is returning to Kyiv,” summed up Taras Ratushny.

Activist Sergei Sternenko stated that the war takes away the best of us.
Roma Town Hall, friend, we will miss you very much. Ukraine will be missed. Those bastards who killed you will burn in hell. All. And the best monument will be our further struggle. The struggle for Ukraine, defending which you died,” Sternenko wrote.
He promised to take revenge and do everything so that Roman in heaven would not be ashamed of us.

“Romchik was the best of us, desperate, who was always the first in any battle and never showed fear. It so happened that in his last battle he was in reconnaissance patrol as part of a combat group and died during a combat mission”, – reads a message on the Facebook page “Let's Protect Protasov Yar”.
Roman's brothers from the public organization SaveProtas said that they would continue his work.
Pay attention! Precisely Roman Ratushny is the author of a well-known thesis that asked to be remembered and spread: “The more Russians we kill now, the fewer Russians our children will have to kill.”
Editor Channel 24 expresses its sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased hero. We remember and we will be worthy of his sacrifice.
