In Kyiv, on Sofiyskaya Square, the memory of the soldiers who died as a result of the terrorist attack in Yelenovka was honored. Vera, the mother of the Ukrainian defender who died in Mariupol, came to honor the memory of the heroes. Channel 24 correspondent Alina Turishin said that her son had died defending Mariupol. According to the woman, the deceased son served in the army for 7 years.
Mrs. Vera shared that in 2014, when Russia's war against Ukraine began, her son was 19 years old. Then he said that “he would regret all his life if he did not leave to defend the Motherland.”
In the last conversation, he said that he did not regret anything, – said the mother of the defender of Mariupol.
She noted that her son wanted to quit and start a peaceful civilian life, which he dreamed of.
“Start a family. But he loved Ukraine very much, he wanted to live in it. He volunteered,” the mother of the deceased soldier recalled.
Vera said that her son served in regimental intelligence and died near the drama theater in Mariupol. There, according to the mother of the fighter, he came under heavy shelling, as a result of which almost his entire group died.
Commenting on the tragedy in the Yelenovka colony, where Russia killed Ukrainian prisoners of war, Vera stressed that this should be reminded. She stressed that practice has shown that international institutions do not work.
In particular, the Red Cross and the UN, as the woman said, did nothing to prevent the terrorist attack in Yelenovka.
Also she noted that it was not known what condition the Ukrainian prisoners of war were in Yelenovka.
The international community and all people in Ukraine should be called upon to remember this. For the prisoners to return home. Among them is my son's family. I am waiting for them. I want them to return,” said Ms. Vira.
