Russell took the win thanks to a one-stop strategy. He was only half a second ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

However, the technical delegate's report published after the race noted that although the car was initially found to meet the minimum weight limit of 798kg, 2.8 liters of fuel had been removed from it.

The protocol states the following: The car was not completely drained according to the drain procedure presented by the team in its documents, which is a violation of clause 6.5.2 .
