On November 28, Hamas militants released the 5th group of hostages captured in Israel. This happened despite the fact that the Palestinian and Israeli sides had previously accused each other of violating the truce.

The released people were held captive in the Gaza Strip for more than 53 days. They were handed over to Red Cross representatives in Egypt.

Another group of Israeli hostages will return home

Journalists noted that it is expected that 10 more hostages will be released as early as November 29, and a total of 20 hostages will be returned by the evening of November 28. The WSJ noted that the agreement has been implemented for the fifth day in a row, despite statements by the parties about the violation of the truce.

According to the newspaper, Egyptian and Qatari officials announced that negotiators are actively calling on both sides to extend the current pause.

In addition, The Times of Israel noted that the temporary truce between Israel and Hamas was extended by two days “in order to deliver additional aid to the Gaza Strip and free as many hostages and prisoners as possible.”

Information about the extension of the ceasefire was confirmed in the United States and Qatar.

At the same time, Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said that the continuation of the temporary ceasefire had not yet been finalized.

IDF says Hamas has violated truce

  • The Israel Defense Forces reported on November 28 that Hamas had violated the ceasefire. In particular, Palestinian militants shelled the northern territory of the Gaza Strip.
  • Several Israeli soldiers were slightly injured as a result of the Hamas attack. The IDF had to respond to the attack with counter fire.
  • At the same time, the military wing of Hamas said that the IDF allegedly started shooting first, and the Palestinian military responded to it. According to a Palestinian spokesman, Hamas “is committed to the truce as long as the enemy respects it.”
  • It is worth noting that on November 27, the parties agreed to continue the ceasefire for another two days. This means that at least 20 Israeli hostages and 30 Palestinian prisoners will be released.
