Hacker attack on Kyivstar

On the morning of December 12, the mobile operator Kyivstar experienced a failure — Users have no connection or internet.

— Today, a technical failure occurred in our network, as a result of which communication services and Internet access may be unavailable for part of the subscriber base, — told in Kyivstar.

Subsequently, the company said that a powerful hacker attack had been carried out, which partially destroyed the IT infrastructure of Kyivstar. Therefore, it is still difficult to determine the time frame for restoring the work of the mobile operator, said Kyivstar CEO Alexander Komarov.

— In fact, Kyivstar has not yet announced any time frame for restoring work. Very powerful hacker attack on the company’s intellectual infrastructure, the IT infrastructure was partially destroyed. Therefore, we are now working on the issue of how long the recovery will take. And we haven’t made any statements yet, — he explained.

According to him, the purpose of this attack — maximum possible destruction of the operator’s IT infrastructure.

Russian losses near Avdeevka

According to US intelligence, Russia continues to suffer heavy losses in the war against Ukraine, but despite this, it intends to continue to move forward.

— Since the start of the offensive in October, we estimate that the Russian military has suffered more than 13,000 casualties along the Avdeevka-Novopavlovka line and lost more than 220 combat vehicles, which is equivalent to six maneuver battalions in vehicles alone, — National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said.

He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin “still seeks to conquer” Ukraine, but his offensive attempt did not lead to “any strategic achievements”.

Other recently declassified intelligence suggests that “Russia appears to believe that a military stalemate in the winter will exhaust Western support for Ukraine and ultimately give the Russian advantage, despite the aggressor country's losses and constant shortage of trained personnel, ammunition and equipment”.

— Putin has a keen eye on what's happening in Congress, and we need Congress to act this month to support Ukraine in its difficult time, — Watson added.

The question of Zaluzhny’s resignation is not worth it

In Ukraine, the issue of resignations in the command of the Armed Forces was not raised, said the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov.

The minister was asked whether the resignation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny or the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Naev was planned, to which he recalled that there are always changes in the military component, and there are transitional things in the military leadership.

— In this regard, there is no such question. I know they are rocking it internally and externally, — says Umerov.

He recalled that today, together with Zaluzhny, he greeted the Ukrainian military in the eastern direction. According to the minister, he is already joking with the commander-in-chief amid rumors of his resignation.

— If there are such questions — I will inform you. There are no urgent questions like this. There were transitions with some commanders. I always asked Valery Fedorovich, if there were these transitional questions regarding some people, what recommendations, who we can (appoint, — Ed.). As you know, we can rotate or transfer to a separate position, — added the minister.

Umerov promised that if questions about resignation arise, he will come out with this question and talk about the situation.
