On September 15, special forces of the GUR from the Khimik group attacked a Russian military base in Syria near Aleppo. There, the occupiers manufactured and tested their attack drones.

A source in Ukrainian intelligence reported this to the Kyiv Post. In addition, they also managed to obtain footage of the damaged Russian military base near Aleppo.

What is known about the GUR operation in Syria with the Russian base

The journalists' interlocutor said that Russian troops were manufacturing and testing attack UAVs at the base in Syria. In addition, the attacked base was used by the Russians to make “camouflaged improvised explosive devices,” the warheads of which were stored at the position attacked by the GUR special forces.

An exclusive video obtained by the Kyiv Post, reportedly filmed by an intelligence officer, shows Ukrainian intelligence markings near the Russian military base. An explosion soon occurred at the Russian facility, followed by the detonation of ammunition. The video also shows explosives that had been planted at the base in advance.

This time, the target of the attack was Russian military equipment at the Kuweires airfield they occupied, located east of Aleppo.

A source from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine also noted to the publication that since the beginning of 2024, rebel forces, with the support of Ukrainian fighters, have carried out numerous strikes on Russian military facilities under the control of the “grouping of the armed forces of the Russian Federation in the Syrian Arab Republic”.

By the way, earlier sources from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense told journalists that they also carried out strikes on Russian military bases in Syria on July 24. This happened a day after Vladimir Putin met with Bashar al-Assad in the Kremlin.
