Serious problems with recruiting new contract soldiers and with modern weapons and equipment.
This was reported in a commentary to ICTV host Vadim Karpyak during the broadcast of the national telethon United News by Andrey Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Problems in the Russian army with the restoration of losses
Andrey Yusov notes: the statement of the commander of the National Guard Oleksandr Pivnenko that in a month and a half the Russian occupiers will go on the defensive corresponds to the assessments of Ukrainian intelligence officers.

– The security and defense forces work in coordination. Of course, there is an exchange of data. It is clear that such assessments are made, in particular, on the basis of the enemy’s large losses in manpower and equipment, noted Andrei Yusov.
According to the GUR, the Russians can make up for these losses, but serious problems with the recruitment of new contract soldiers are already being recorded.
So, says the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, now in the Russian Federation at various levels they are coming up with more and more new incentives to attract new cannon fodder, but “the machine is starting to fail”.
Now, Andrey Yusov continues, the occupiers are trying to stick to their plan to increase their forces by the end of 2024 from 520 thousand to 690 thousand, which was previously reported in an interview with The Guardian by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky.
However, taking this opportunity, Andrey Yusov clarifies that this figure covers the entire enemy group, that is, the combat component, and the support forces, and the forces responsible for the so-called order, and in fact for repression, in the occupied territories.
But a significant part of the efforts is focused on replenishing the losses inflicted on the invaders by the Security and Defense Forces.
Problems in the Russian army with providing modern means
As of today, the Russian army is experiencing significant problems with providing modern means – weapons and equipment.
The enemy is mainly focused on de-mothballing and modernizing old Soviet weapons.
– The fact that this equipment drives and shoots is still a problem, but the enemy has significant difficulties with the production of new equipment, – states the representative of the GUR.
Thus, the sanctions policy, which has complicated access for Russians to modern electronic systems, optics, communication systems, etc., does not contribute to new production in the Russian Federation.
The full-scale war in Ukraine has been going on for 884 days already.
