The investigation learned how and when the suspects in the case of the Kharkiv agreements left Ukraine. Tatyana Sapyan, Communications Adviser of the SBI, spoke about this on the air of the only telethon, reports Channel 24.

Gryshchenko and Lavrynovych are wanted, they want to involve Interpol

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Gryshchenko left Ukraine in January of this year and flew to Paris, and ex-Minister of Justice Lavrynovych left Ukraine in May, during Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

Currently, the investigation is establishing the current whereabouts of those suspected of treason. Safyan added that this is the secret of a rather long investigation.

But both defendants in the criminal proceedings on high treason have been put on the state and international wanted list, she added.

How the case is progressing

The speaker assured that “investigations into the Kharkiv agreements did not stop even for a moment”.

The next step of the SBI will be:

  • Obtaining court permission to detain Grishchenko and Lavrynovych.
  • Application for a measure of restraint in the form of detention of suspects,
  • At the same time, the SBI investigators will petition for extradition and for the defendants in the case to be put on the wanted list through the Interpol red line.

Currently, 25 people have already been interviewed as witnesses in the case. The State Bureau of Investigation also conducted 15 seizures of documents, ordered 22 examinations and announced 4 suspicions. In addition to Lavrynovych and Grishchenko, the former Ukrainian prime minister Mykola Azarov and the fugitive ex-president Viktor Yanukovych are suspected of treason in this case.

Kharkov agreements

This is an agreement between Ukraine and Russia in 2010 – then the Kremlin was given the right keep their troops in the Crimea until 2042. As a result, this led to an increase in the number of Russian military and special services on the peninsula. Already in 2014, Russia occupied Crimea with their help. The pre-trial investigation found that the content and terms of the Kharkiv agreements were imposed by the then current President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, on the then Prime Minister of Ukraine, Mykola Azarov.
