Greece is ready to provide ships for the export of grain from Ukraine, NATO Secretary General

Greece declared its readiness to provide its ships for the export of Ukrainian grain by sea, which was blocked by Russia.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference after the summit in Madrid. According to him, Turkey is trying to mediate between Russia and Ukraine in negotiations.

Many countries are working to resolve the food crisis

Greece has stated that it is ready to provide ships to take grain out of Ukraine. Other allies are involved in various diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement that will allow food ships to leave the Black Sea, Stoltenberg said.

He added that Lithuania, Romania and other countries are also making efforts so that Ukraine can use land routes and transported food with the help of the railway.

Stoltenberg said that the food crisis was one of the main ones at the NATO summit. The leaders of the NATO member countries discussed this problem created by Russia and ways out of it.

What they say in Greece

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that his country can play a special role in overcoming the food crisis, as it controls the largest merchant fleet in the world.

“Greece once again offers assistance and support to any effort undertaken under the auspices of UN to ensure that the grain that is now trapped in Ukraine, primarily in Odessa, goes beyond the borders of Ukraine and eventually gets to the countries that need it today,” the prime minister stressed.

Unlock Ukrainian ports

The Ukrainian authorities emphasize that an international mission of the navy is needed to unblock the ports, which will be ready to open fire if Russia violates the agreements. Turkey, acting as a mediator in these negotiations, stated that the mechanism of the so-called grain corridor with the participation of the UN, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey is being discussed. They also reported that the route can be laid through areas where there are no mines, so it will not be necessary to clear the Black Sea coast.
