Mikhail Podolyak called for signing a petition to expel Russia from the UN and the Security Council. This will deprive the aggressor country of the right to veto in the organization.
The adviser to the head of the President's Office recalled that Russia's presence in the UN was never voted for at all. And he called on to support the petition , which, as of 12:00 on September 24, gained more than 145 thousand votes.
Text of the petition
The petition was created by the Public Hub organization. They stressed that the right to veto cannot be the right to kill. They also stressed that Russia's stay in the UN is the most deception in the history of international politics, since the aggressor country is generally there illegally.
Thus, Russia did not go through the procedure for joining the UN in accordance with Article 4 of the UN Charter, therefore, by status, it is neither part of the Security Council nor a member of the UN. According to Article 23 of the UN Charter, Russia is not a permanent member of the UN Security Council! The current UN Charter says that the USSR still exists, but Russia is not mentioned at all. However, for some reason, it is the aggressor country that owns all the privileges of the USSR.
Help.for unknown reasons, Russia is one of the few countries with a veto power in the Security Council. In addition to the country of the aggressor, China, the USA, France and Britain have the right to veto.
We ask António Guterres and the UN to provide documents certifying the grounds for the membership of the Russian Federation in the UN. In the absence of such documents, we demand that the fictitious membership of the Russian Federation in the UN be terminated. The UN doors for the Russian Federation must be closed, because in order to join the UN, the Russian Federation, according to Article 4 of the UN Charter, must stop the war of aggression in Ukraine and return to internationally recognized borders. Only peace-loving states can become members of the UN, the message says.
Such actions will deprive Russia of the right of veto in the UN, which blocks many peaceful decisions. Mikhail Podolyak supported the petition and urged people to sign it.
Invasion of Ukraine, massacres, attempted annexation, nuclear threat… How many more red lines does the UN need to end Russia's membership – whose presence was never voted on? The right petition, the right questions, Podolyak said.
The President of the European Council calls for the suspension of Russia's membership in the Security Council
At the UN General Assembly in New York, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, calls for the suspension of Russia's membership in the Security Council United Nations.
When a permanent member of the Security Council starts an unprovoked and unjustified war, a war condemned by the General Assembly, the suspension of that member's membership in the Security Council, in my opinion, should be automatic,” Michel said.
He stressed that the use of the veto should be the exception, but for Russia it has become the rule. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out a reform.
Recall that the day before, Turkey spoke out for reforming the UN Security Council. The country's foreign minister supported the abolition of the veto, and, as an alternative, proposed the introduction of a “majority vote” system.
