German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly noted that his state will not provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 heavy tanks until this is done and other states. However, there are already at least five countries willing to provide such assistance.
Now Germany has put forward a new condition for providing Leopard 2 to Ukraine. Olaf Scholz wants the US to provide its tanks to Ukraine.

So, now the German chancellor seems to be ready to supply heavy tanks to Ukraine, provided that the United States provides its Abrams battle tanks. According to Western media, he personally stated this to US President Joe Biden during a telephone conversation. It is still unknown what the decision of the United States will be.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Olaf Scholz also said that Germany, in agreement with partners, constantly supplies weapons to Ukraine in large quantities. In particular, it refers to:
- air defense systems,
- artillery guns,
- armored personnel carriers.
Why Germany's decision on the supply is so important
A number of countries have already agreed to provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 heavy tanks, including Poland, Finland and Denmark. They called for tanks to be delivered to Ukraine in Lithuania. Thus, its president, Gitanas Nauseda, said in Davos: “We are in a situation where a stronger commitment to the supply of armored vehicles to Ukraine is required.”
Moreover, representatives of other EU countries, as well as the European Parliament and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, also joined the demand.
However, in order for them to destroy the occupiers at the front, Germany must say its “yes”. Such a transfer without the consent of the government of this country is impossible – the federal government must approve each delivery to another country.

Poland and delivery of Leopard 2 to Ukraine
- The President of Poland said earlier that his country is ready to provide the military of our state with a company of German-made heavy tanks. And this is more than 10 units.
- However, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki believes that Ukraine's allies can jointly transfer up to 100 Leopard 2 tanks.
