Germany understands the catastrophic consequences of dependence on Russian gas and seeks to break it. It is likely that Germany will support the gas embargo against Russia.
Germany understands the consequences of dependence on Russian gas
This was announced by Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, he believes that Germany needs more time to finally come to an embargo of Russian gas.
Just two months ago, Germany was saying that an oil embargo against Russia was impossible, and now Germany is one of the leading states “pushing through” an oil embargo. – Kuleba emphasized.
Kuleba suggested that Germany had already made a decision
The minister noted that after the talks with Germany, he had a clear impression that the fundamental political decision that Germany's dependence on Russian gas is a huge problem and this dependence must be broken has already been made.
Germany finally realized that Russian gas is a weapon. A striking weapon that Russia holds at the temple of Ukraine, Germany and any other European country, – added Dmitry Kuleba.
By the way, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said yesterday, May 14, that Germany will become independent from Russian oil and coal this year.
Pay attention!The oil embargo should be included in the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia. However, several countries, in particular Hungary, are trying to block this decision.
Ukraine will still receive the status of an EU candidate
Dmytro Kuleba spoke about the results of discussions with the Germans on Ukraine's candidacy for membership in the European Union. According to him, they had a “rational discussion”.
It will still happen. It's unavoidable. Ukraine will get candidate status sooner or later. We want this to happen at the end of June. The choice before the German elites is simple: either lead this process and write your names in the history of Europe, or it will happen anyway, but without your participation,” Kuleba added.
By the way, recently German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said she did not know when Ukraine could join the European Union because of the war unleashed by Russia. At the same time, she noted that the Ukrainian state belongs to the European home.
However, Ukraine continues to confidently move forward on the path to joining the European Union. In particular, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is working fruitfully on this. Now Dmitry Kuleba explains two important points:
Dmitry Kuleba decided to clarify a few points on Ukraine's European integration, namely:
- by no means is it about instant accession to the EU without taking a certain path;
- our state is not trying to jump over someone's head and leave those who are already waiting for membership behind.
