Germany must not forget that Putin will go as far as we allow him – Klitschko

For an effective fight, the Ukrainian military urgently needed weapons from Western partners. However, some countries are in no hurry to provide this assistance.

Vitali Klitschko stated this in an interview with the German publication Bild. He called for speeding up the supply of weapons so that the Ukrainians could protect their land and all of Europe.

Several hundred kilometers from here, fierce fighting ensues. The Russians have more soldiers, more artillery and more equipment – so we urgently need support. I emphasize once again: we are defending not only our families, our cities and our country. We also defend the values of every Western democratic state. We need support. We need ammunition, we need modern weapons, defense weapons,” Klitschko said.

The mayor of Kyiv noted that the delay in deliveries leads to the death of Ukrainian Heroes and the loss of territories.

Without weapons, Ukraine is losing people and territories

For months we have been hearing that weapons will be delivered “soon” and that support will come “soon”. But I hear from the military that only part of the support comes not in the desired amount. This means that we are losing territory and losing our lives,” Klitschko added.

He noted that we should not forget that if the Russians continue their offensive, it will be very dangerous for every European. That is why strong support for sanctions and weapons from the three leaders of the most important countries is required – as soon as possible, because, according to Klitschko, these countries have already received a list of weapons.

He is convinced that Putin can invade the countries of Europe, in particular, Germany, if left unchecked.

War can affect anyone in the EU

“Putin personally says that he claims the entire former territory of Russia. He will continue the offensive. His interest does not end with Kyiv and the border with Poland.I firmly believe that Putin will go as far as we allow him.And Germany must not forget: part of Germany was part of the Soviet empire. If anyone in Germany thinks that before the war, even far away, this is not true. This could affect anyone in the EU,” summed up the mayor of the capital.

Recall that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi are planning a joint trip to Kyiv in end of June, on the eve of the EU leaders' summit.
