Germany plans to get rid of dependence on Russian energy resources. In particular, we are talking about coal, oil and gas, but the government has the most difficulties with the latter.

The German government plans to significantly reduce purchases of Russian energy resources already this year. They want to implement this process gradually, because they are convinced that the embargo will have serious economic consequences for Germany as well.

How Germany plans to buy gas

The German Ministry of Economy and Energy plans to purchase liquefied natural gas. With the help of special ships, which the government plans to lease, gas will be taken from tankers and turned into a gaseous state.

Before the war, the share of Russian gas in the German market was 55%. At present, it is about 40%. By the end of this year, Germany wants to reduce dependence on Russian gas to 30%.

Germany plans to completely get rid of dependence on Russian gas by mid-2024.

German purchases of oil and coal

Germany plans to halve Russian oil supplies by the end of 2022 and thus get rid of dependence on it.

The easiest situation for the German government is with the purchase of Russian coal – they can become completely independent from it this summer.

At the same time, the German media note that the search for alternative energy sources requires more costs, therefore, the cost of energy carriers is likely to increase for the population .
