Germany is in active talks with the United States to supply Ukraine with at least two additional Patriot air defense systems.

This was reported by the Bloomberg agency.

Berlin reportedly proposed a Patriot deal to Washington several weeks ago, and the decision on whether to hand over the equipment is now in the hands of US Defense Secretary Pete Hagseth.

Germany has also been pushing for months for the US to supply Ukraine with at least one more Patriot system to plug gaps in its air defense as Russia steps up its attacks.

“I can say that there are indeed intensive discussions on this issue,” Merz's chief spokesman Stefan Cornelius told reporters in Berlin on Friday.

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is scheduled to visit Washington on July 14-15 for talks with his American counterpart.

“Of course, Patriot will also be on the agenda,” the defense ministry spokesman added.

Germany has already sent three Patriot systems from its stockpiles to Ukraine, which is a quarter of Berlin's arsenal.

As the agency noted, this exceeds the share of Patriot batteries sent by the US to Kyiv.

Let us recall that on July 2, the Pentagon temporarily suspended the supply of certain types of weapons to Ukraine, in particular missiles needed for air defense.
