The German Ministry of Finance wants to stop funding Schroeder's bureau – a friend of Putin/RosSMI
German Finance Minister Christian Lindner called for the end of state support for former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder because of his business ties with Russia.
He noted that former high-ranking officials who ended up on the side of criminal governments cannot count on state support.
According to German law, the former chancellor, after his resignation, has the right to finance a certain number of employees of his bureau at public expense. However, in Germany they do not want to finance the man who heads the board of directors of Rosneft and is the head of the committee of shareholders of Nord Stream AG.
We must draw conclusions. I can no longer imagine a taxpayer giving him an office,” Christian Lindner remarked.
Schröder has closer ties to Putin than you might think
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder is friends with Putin. He was also criticized more than once for his statements about the war in Ukraine.
In particular, he said that he called for a “political failure” for Russia's war against Ukraine (whose – it is not clear). At the same time, he expressed doubts that Putin ordered the atrocities in Bucha. He also stated that he did not regret his pro-Russian policy during his time in government and that it was “not his fault.”
Meanwhile, Berlin employees have already resigned from the Schroeder Foundation.
Germany will reconsider support for former chancellors and presidents
Christian Lindner called for a general reorganization of the allocation of offices and staff to former chancellors and federal presidents.
It would be wise to standardize the talents of the former holders of top positions and reduce them over time. In this context, we would also have to talk about some kind of code of conduct,” added the German finance minister.
Sanctions against Russian oligarchs: the main thing
- Russian oligarchs are losing their cloudy state. Their assets are blocked in different countries of the world, and their property is frozen or confiscated.
