Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to talk to European leaders. They even call. And all this happens after Russia started a war against Ukraine.
One of those with whom Vladimir Putin often communicates is German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The latter had to make excuses for his phone calls to the Kremlin leader during his visit to Lithuania.
Olaf Scholz argues that his calls are intended to make Putin understand again and again that the strategy of attacking Ukraine will not work. And also the fact that Russia will not be able to annex Ukrainian territory. The German chancellor said it was important to convey to Putin that neither Ukraine nor its Western allies would agree to a “dictated peace.”
Scholz also stated that Russia should not win the war. This is a familiar cliché for him when he talks about the war that Russia started against Ukraine. The German chancellor traditionally avoids using the phrase that “Ukraine will win this war”, which has already been repeatedly criticized. It happened this time too, when, after meeting with the heads of government of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in Vilnius, Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins emphasized that “Our goal is clear: Russia must lose this war, and Ukraine must win.”
“Ridiculous” calls and empty talk about humiliating Russia
European politicians have been repeatedly criticized by phone calls to Vladimir Putin. Despite hours of talk, they had no effect on the Russian dictator. The war continues, Russia continues to carry out the genocide of the Ukrainian people, and also threatens the whole world.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas called such phone calls “meaningless”.
In addition to Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron also likes to talk on the phone with Putin. On May 28, Olaf Scholz and Emmanuel Macron had a telephone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. It lasted 80 minutes. Macron and Scholz demanded an end to the blockade of the Ukrainian seas so that our country could supply grain and stop the food crisis. In over a week that has passed since then, the situation has not changed.
Macron is often criticized for calling Putin. But he got even more after he said that Russia “should not be humiliated” in this war. They fear the defeat of the Russians in the war against Ukraine. Indeed, due to humiliation, Russia can go into isolation, from which it will be difficult for it to get out.
Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba, in response to Macron’s statement, said that “calls to avoid humiliation of Russia can only humiliate France and any another country that would call for it. Because it is Russia that humiliates itself. We should all focus on how to put Russia in its place. “
A similar opinion is shared by the Baltic countries, who have repeatedly heard threats from side of Russia. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that “Russia has humiliated itself in this war.” And Krisjanis Karins added that Russia should be humiliated “both militarily and economically.”
