Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili again accused Ukraine of dragging his state into the war. They say that the government managed to avoid this, despite “all the challenges.”

According to Garibashvili, attempts to transfer the ongoing war in Ukraine to the territory of Georgia do not stop. However, he only wants “peace and the return of territories” to our state.

Garibashvili accused Ukraine of trying to drag Georgia into the war

Georgian Prime Minister said that as a result of the work of the government of the country last year, economic growth was unprecedentedly high – 10.1%.

This is at a time when there is a worldwide recession, uncertainty and unpredictability. Despite this challenge, our team managed to avoid the biggest test – the war. The attempt to make this conflict somehow pass into our country, unfortunately, does not stop. Garibashvili noted.

He blames Ukraine for these attempts. Like, everyone directly heard the statements of the Ukrainian authorities on this topic – Kyiv allegedly wanted to open a “second front”.

“This goal was served by the departure of Mikheil Saakashvili to Georgia and a lot of provocations, which, unfortunately, do not stop even now. I want to wish everyone, including our friendly Ukrainian people, one thing – peace, a timely end to this war and the return of territories” , – summed up the head of the Georgian government.

What is known about Georgia's decision not to give weapons to Ukraine

The Georgian government refuses to help Ukraine. Chargé d'Affaires for Ukraine Andrey Kasyanov said that Kiev had asked Tbilisi to provide not only the Buk air defense system, which it received from Ukraine in 2008, but also Javelin systems.

The United States approved the transfer of its weapons and suggested that Tbilisi replace the complexes with newer ones. However, Georgia categorically refused. Kasyanov noted that disagreements remain between Ukraine and Georgia regarding:

  • military assistance,
  • the introduction of a regime of bilateral sanctions against the Kremlin,
  • the introduction of a visa regime for Russian citizens fleeing en masse to Georgia
  • observance of the legitimate rights and interests of Mikheil Saakashvili.
