The first half of the meeting passed with almost no chances at the teams' goal. The Portuguese had more possession of the ball, and the French had more shots, including one on target.

After the break the game became more dynamic. The Portuguese pressed heavily on the opponents' goal, but each time Le Bleu was saved by goalkeeper Mike Maignan — especially after the blows of Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Didier Deschamps' team responded with blows from Randal Colo-Mouany and Edouard Camavinga. The first player's ball was blocked by a Portuguese defender, and the second shot into the far corner, but missed.
In the extra time, Portugal had the best chance to score, but each time it was either the French defense, or the goalkeeper, or the Portuguese themselves who saved the day.
In the penalty shootout, the key miss was Joao Felix's miss in the third kick, while France converted all their attempts.
Note that at Euro 2024 France became a unique semi-finalist, because the team did not score a single field goal during the entire tournament.
In the opening match against Austria, Deschamps’ team won by an own goal, the game with the Netherlands ended in a goalless draw, and with the Poles (1:1) Mbappe scored from the penalty spot. In the 1/8 finals, after 0:0 in a penalty shootout, Belgium was beaten.
In the semi-finals, the French team will meet with Spain, which defeated the German team with a score of 2:1 in stoppage time.
