France and Great Britain are considering options for peace talks on the Russian-Ukrainian war, including the option of deploying French and British troops on the demarcation line in Ukraine.

Radio Liberty reports this, citing a high-ranking NATO official who commented on condition of anonymity.

Deployment of French and British troops in Ukraine

According to him, French and British troops can monitor the ceasefire on the demarcation line, but a halt to hostilities is only possible at the negotiating table.

A senior NATO official said such discussions were continuing only in individual capitals, but not at the Alliance level. According to him, France and Great Britain want to prepare several options, where there will be different scenarios for the development of events, so that in a situation where the United States under the presidency of Donald Trump refuses to support Ukraine, European countries have an action plan to help Kiev.

The Alliance official added that the development of specific proposals and support options is necessary, including to guarantee the participation of European allies in peace talks between Kiev and Moscow if the mediator is newly elected US President Donald Trump.

The NATO representative did not provide any other details regarding the plans of France or Britain.

NATO troops in Ukraine

Recall that in the past, the French publication Le Monde reported that France and Great Britain are discussing plans for a possible deployment of its troops in Ukraine.

Later, this issue was also commented on by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who stated that he did not rule out any option when it came to the participation of French troops in hostilities.

However, the head of the British Foreign Office subsequently denied that London was considering such initiatives.

The idea of involving national regular armies in the war in Ukraine was first voiced by French President Emmanuel Macron back in February 2024. However, this caused a sharp reaction among NATO countries, after which a number of politicians, in particular German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden, denied this form of support for Ukraine on the battlefield.
