The 2nd Western District Court of Moscow has convicted the founder of the Russian Volunteer Corps Denis Kapustin in absentia. It is worth noting that the soldier is fighting on the side of Ukraine.

The founder of the RDC was convicted of invading the Bryansk region, reports 24 Channel with reference to the Russian service of the BBC.

Why the founder of the RDC was convicted for the second time

In November last year, a military court sentenced the commander of the RDC Denis Kapustin and his fellow actor Kirill Kanakhin to life imprisonment on charges of treason and several terrorist articles. Kapustin was also fined two and a half million rubles, and Kanakhin was fined two million.

In September, the Russian publication Kommersant wrote that the defendants in the case of the invasion of the Bryansk region were accused of many articles – from smuggling potent substances and illegal border crossing to terrorism and robbery.

The raid in the Bryansk region took place on March 2, 2023. According to the investigation, the accused “as part of a Ukrainian sabotage group with weapons and explosive devices illegally crossed the Russian border and entered two villages in the Bryansk region.”

It should be noted that the Russian Volunteer Corps is fighting “to liberate its land from the Putin regime.” The Russian authorities have recognized this organization as terrorist.
