UEFA may suspend the England team from participating in upcoming international football tournaments. It's all because of the government's decision regarding the football regulator.

An independent football regulator may be established in the UK at the initiative of the main political parties. It will have to oversee the licensing system of English clubs, check their owners and directors, and also give fans a voice in key decisions.

Why England may be suspended

UEFA sent a letter to the British government, in which it noted that the government should not interfere in the development of football. It is because of the government's interference that the football organization may take action by disqualifying the England national football team from competitions.

The world governing body FIFA, which holds the World Cup, also notes in Article 15 of its statutes that “national associations must be independent and operate without any form of political interference.”

If UEFA does make a decision, the national team will not take part in the 2026 World Cup and will also be disqualified from hosting Euro 2028. The highest sanction will be the exclusion of the federation from UEFA, and the teams from competitions.

Recall that Euro 2028 is scheduled to take place from June 9 to July 9, 2028 in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
