SBU detained the ex-official of the LOGA and a journalist on the theft of humanitarian aid/LvivMedia
In the Lviv region, SBU officers detained former LOG official Roman Matis and Yevgeny Shpitko, editor-in-chief of Mind.UA. They are accused of embezzling humanitarian aid.
Mathis is the president of the International Investment Office. He worked as the head of the Investment Policy Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration in 2016-2021.
Former LGA official and journalist detained for stealing humanitarian aid
According to media reports, Matys and Shpitko sold humanitarian aid and equipment for the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, who are now protecting Ukraine from Russian invaders.
In addition, they appropriated donations from philanthropists, who transferred them to the accounts of the public organization “Legal Hundred” and their own bank accounts. Subsequently, this money was withdrawn through bank terminals and branches.
SBU officers detained the journalist and the ex-official “hot” – while receiving money and transferring military equipment. They are accused of illegally using humanitarian aid, charitable donations and gratuitous aid.
Law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings on smuggling. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
What is known about Roman Matis
- In January 2021, Roman Matis was fired from his post head of the Department of Investment Policy of the Logistics Department.
- He was appointed during the presidency of Petro Poroshenko, when Oleg Sinyutka headed the Lviv region.
- The reason for the dismissal was the reorganization and change in the structure of the Department of Economic Policy.
- In the local elections in 2020, the former LOGA official was a candidate for the post of mayor of Lviv.
- Then he won less than 1% of the vote.
